Acrylic painting on canvas. Inspired in part by my love of the sphere as a shape in itself, in part by the wonderful use of gold and silver in the works of Gustav Klimt, and in part by the idea that paintings have multiple ways of being according to the lighting they have around them.

This turned out, rather unexpectedly, to be the hardest painting I've done. It's the first of this size, and has taken the longest. It's a prime example of a painting that I began based on a clear idea of what I wanted to do. There came the inevitable point when the painting began to have a life of it's own, and what it let me know about how it wanted to be didn't match my original idea much at all! I love the way this happens with any work, and how the process was particularly pronounced for this piece.
